Project Brief:
Introduction Dye Sublimation Printing
The science and technology behind dye sublimation printing is amazing and quite complex. The main components in sublimation printing are sublimation ink, sublimation paper, heat, pressure, and the substrate. When sublimation inks are heated to 400°F, they turn into a gas; the gas then re-solidifies onto the substrate, which is pressed tightly against the ink carrier sheet. The substrate must be coated with a polymer coating, or, for fabric, be made of 100% polyester fabric or contain polyester fibers. The result is a premium, full-color, photographic-quality image that will not crack, peel, fade, or wash away.
This is an introductory project to familiarize the student with the lab, equipment, supplies, and other procedures used in and for Dye sublimation printing.
The student will be required to create and or do the following
Using the software of your choice, create an image suitable for dye sublimation printing and the substrate chosen. Design can be in full color. Use RGB as the color mode.
